Shopify growth systems: ads, site and email run as one loop

A campaign is something you launch. A growth system is what keeps working after the campaign ends. I build the second one.

What a Shopify growth system is

A Shopify growth system is the set of connected parts that turns a stranger into a repeat customer, and tells you what each step cost. It has five parts:

  1. Acquisition. Meta ads, Google Ads and SEO bringing in qualified visitors.
  2. Conversion. Landing pages, quizzes and product pages that turn those visitors into buyers or subscribers.
  3. Retention. Email and SMS flows, subscriptions and post-purchase education that produce the second and third order.
  4. Measurement. Tracking and reporting that ties the first three together with numbers you can trust.
  5. Rhythm. A weekly and monthly routine for reviewing the numbers and deciding what changes.

Most stores have pieces of this. Few have them connected. The connection is where the return is.

What I actually build

  • Quiz funnels that match visitors to a product and capture an email, such as a quiz with three intent paths and seven result outcomes.
  • Klaviyo flows for welcome, browse and cart abandonment, checkout recovery, review requests and post-purchase, branched by what the customer bought.
  • Subscription retention. Cancellation surveys where each reason leads to a specific save offer, plus weekly subscription reports delivered to Slack.
  • Tracking. Pixel and Conversions API, GA4, Google Tag Manager, cross-domain setups and server-side events.
  • Local and product SEO pages with schema markup, written to rank and to convert.
  • Monthly performance reports that pull ad platforms, Shopify and email into one view.

An example: 300% growth in 30 days at Shift

Shift makes zero-nicotine lifestyle pouches, a brand-new category that has to be explained before it can be sold. By the time I took over, Shift had already been through two other agencies, and ads, email and tracking were all running in silos with no one able to say what was actually driving revenue.

I rebuilt the account structure across Meta and Google, rebuilt tracking and attribution from scratch, and layered education-led top-of-funnel prospecting with intent-based retargeting to turn cold, category-unaware traffic into buyers. Proactive support workflows and a marketplace expansion roadmap for Amazon and Walmart went in alongside it.

The result: total store revenue grew 300% in 30 days, with Meta and Google combined returning 2.8x ROAS and customer response times down 40%. Ads, tracking, lifecycle and marketplace planning now run as one system instead of four disconnected pieces.

Tools I work in

Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads, Merchant Center, GA4, Google Tag Manager, Recharge, Octane AI, Judge.me, Gorgias and Zapier. At Branva we have also built our own software for multi-store reporting, SEO content and store conversion audits, which is how a small team covers this much ground.

Common questions

What is a Shopify growth system?

A Shopify growth system is the connected set of acquisition, conversion, retention and measurement that turns a first-time visitor into a repeat customer. It typically includes paid ads, landing pages or quizzes, email and SMS flows, tracking and a regular reporting routine.

How is this different from hiring an ads agency?

An ads agency optimizes the ad account. A growth system also covers what happens after the click: the page, the email capture, the flows and the second purchase. That is usually where the profit is.

How long does it take to build?

A working first version takes about 45 days: tracking, core flows, a landing page or quiz and initial campaigns. The following two months are for expanding channels and tightening what the data shows is weak.

Do I need to be on Shopify Plus?

No. Everything described here runs on standard Shopify plans with common apps such as Klaviyo.
